Viacom18 Wins The Rights For Women’s Premier League: Where To Watch WIPL, Streaming And More details here

Viacom 18 got media rights of the Women’s Premier League (WIPL) for a period of over 5 years, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Monday. The auction for Women’s IPL media rights was conducted in Mumbai. Viacom18, had bid for 950 crore, which sums up to 7.09 crore per match in the tenure of 5 years i.e, 2023-2027.

WIPL Streaming Rights Goes To Viacom18

It is speculated that the first match of WIPL will begin in the month of March this year. The company associated with Reliance (Viacom18) has bought both the TV and digital rights of WIPL. BCCI secretary Jay Shah, expressed his happiness through his tweets further he wrote,” Thank You for your faith in BCCI and BCCI Women.” 

The auction of the rights was done through a close bid. Therefore no company was aware of each other’s bidding amount. 8 companies filled the tender for media rights but only two companies participated in the auction. The other bidder that has grabbed headlines is Disney Star.

BCCI congratulated the Women’s Cricket team by saying, “This is massive for Women’s Cricket.” Moreover, it is a matter of great happiness because Women’s IPL for the first time organized in India.

Men’s IPL is a game where more of the population is interested, but people showed their great interest for Women’s IPL too. Industrialist Mukesh Ambani bid online $3 billion for both TV and digital media rights of the Men’s IPL in June 2022. And Disney who had media rights of IPL for the last 5 years offered 3.1 billion dollars and won the opportunity. But got only TV rights.

WIPL’s Teams And Franchise

According to reports, 5 teams will participate in WIPL whose names and cities have not been disclosed yet. Moreover, it is a matter of great pride and is an excellent achievement of the Women of the Indian Cricket team.

Women playing Cricket might not be new, but franchise-based tournaments will play a key role in popularising the game. Tweets, comments, and greetings have blown the internet after BCCI revealed the news. Many have called Viacom18 as the new home for your favorite sports.

Although enough updates are yet not out about WIPL. But it has created a sensation to everyone.
