Top 5 Batsmen With Highest Runs In Test Cricket: Test Cricket is always fun to watch and loved by many cricket fans but it is also considered as most challenging among other formats. Its first official match was played between England and Australia on 15th and 19th March 1877 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Also, the Test match was renewed as Day/Night Test matches in October 2012 and the first Day/Night match was played by Australia and New Zealand at Adelaide Oval, on 27 Nov – 1 Dec 2015.

5. Gary Sobers

Sir Garfield St Auburn Sobers also called Gary Sobers is a former Cricketer, who played for West Indies from 1954 till 1974. He is regarded as an all-rounder and one of the greatest cricketers of his time.

In 1958 Gary scored 365 not out against Pakistan marking the highest score in a test match which remained unbroken for more than 35 years. Sobers was introduced in the ICC Hall of Fame in 2009 and was also named as one of the National Heroes of Barbados (out of eleven).

4. Mahela Jayawardene

Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and current consultant coach of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. He is popular for his captaincy intuitions and also for his tactical sharpness. In November 2021, Jayawardene was introduced to the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

Jayawardene recorded one of the highest runs in test cricket by scoring 374 runs against the South African team in 2006. It is also the highest test score by a Sri Lankan cricketer and the fourth highest in Test cricket.

3. Brian Lara

Brian Charles Lara popularly known as Brian Lara is a former West Indies International Cricketer. He is widely considered one of the greatest cricketers of his era.

After breaking Garry Sobers’ 365 not-out record in test format by 375 runs in 538 balls for 766 mins in 1994 he became the highest run-scorer in the test match. And his unbeaten record of 400 runs remains the highest score till today.

2. Matthew Hayden

Matthew Lawrence Hayden is a former Australian Cricketer and a cricket commentator and has played cricket for almost 15 years. Hayden holds the recorded highest runs scored by an Australian cricketer (2nd highest in the world) by scoring 380 runs in 437 balls and in 766 mins. In September 2012 Matthew retired from all forms of cricket. And in 2017 Hayden was initiated into the Australian Hall of Fame.

1. Brian Lara

Brian is at the top in Test Cricket’s batting rankings, After being outdone by Matthew Hayden in highest score by only 5 runs in 2003 he reclaimed his position in 2004 (by scoring 400 runs). Lara was also introduced to the ICC Hall of Fame in January 2012.

He has scored 400 runs in 582 balls and in 778 mins, marking it as the highest individual score at Test Cricket. Brian is also nicknamed “The Prince of Port of Spain” or simply as “The Prince”.
