Shreyas Iyer Saves The Day For India, Sri Lanka Loses Control At The Day-1 Of The 2nd Test

Sri Lanka Tour of India: After getting whitewashed in the T20 and losing the 1st test match against India, Srilanka are still muttering in the 2nd the second test. The 2nd test match of the India- Sri Lanka is a pink ball test match, where Lankan bowlers are doing their best to back off the Indian batters but the outstanding knock from Shreyas Iyer saves the day for India. 

The pink ball test match is getting played at the Chinnaswami Stadium, Banglore.

India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test, Day-1: The Man In Form Shreyas Iyer

Iyer who has been in a red hot form has shown his class once again with a knock of 92(98) in the first innings on the day-1 of the 2nd test match. The knock came in a situation where India was losing wickets in quick intervals.

The spinner-friendly pitch made it tough for the Indian batters to score runs but Iyer proved his form and scored runs all over the ground, making a comfortable total in the first innings.

Shreyas, who is not a permanent part of the Indian test team, got his opportunity after Cheteshwar Pujara and Anjikya Rahane were dropped out. Iyer is looking good for the middle order for India in the test now with more consistency.

Day 1: Stumps – Sri Lanka trail by 166 runs

India won the toss and captain Rohit Sharma decided to bat first. The pitch was looking friendly and as expected, India lost early wickets in the face of Mayank Agarwal 4(7). Later on Rohit Sharma 15(25), then Hanuma Vihari 31(81) and Virat Kohli 23(48) started building the innings but the Srilankan bowlers started troubling the Indian batters and as a result, Rishab Pant 39(26), Ravindra Jadeja 4(14) and Ashwin 13(33) returned to the pavilion after scoring low runs.

But Shreyas Iyer 92(98) brilliant knock saved the Indian batting lineup from a collapse and stood a respectful total of 252-10 in the first innings.

As the Srilankan batting lineup has a lack of experience, the Indian bowlers started taking them, the openers Kusal Mendis 2(4) and Dimuth Karunaratne 4(13) went for a very low score just after Angelo Mathews 43(85) departed.

The whole batting lineup stated tumbling middle-order batsmen Lahiru Thiramane 8(6), Dhananjay de Silva 10(24), Charith Asalanka 5(8) has down for a low score. In the end, Niroshan Dickwella 13(29) and Swadeiya De Silva 5(10) is on the crease and Srilanka has a total of 86-6. Bumrah has taken 3 wickets along Shami has taken 2 and 1 for Ashwin.
