Manchester United Bids Farewell To Two Academy Graduates On Same Day

Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard’s time at Manchester United will come to an end after contract expiration, the club confirmed. Pogba was re-signed from United from Juventus in 2016 but failed to deliver on his huge promise, struggling with consistency at Old Trafford.

While Lingard joined the United Academy at the age of seven and was a member of the 2011 FA Youth Cup-winning squad. He made his United debut against Swansea in August 2014.

Manchester United Confirms Pogba And Jesse Will Leave Free After Contract Expiration

The club can announce that Paul Pogba will leave Manchester United at the end of June, upon expiry of his contract,” the club said in a statement for Pogba.

Jesse Lingard will leave Manchester United this summer“, the club confirmed on Wednesday for Lingard.

Both Pogba and Lingard were Academy graduates and were scouted by Manchester United.

United Academy graduate Pogba left Old Trafford to join Juventus as a free agent in 2012, only to return four years for then a world record fee of around 89.3 million euros whilst Lingard ends a 20-year association with the club.

Pogba will leave for nothing for the second time when his deal expires this month

Pogba returned in 2016 for a record fee from Juventus. He made 226 appearances scoring 39 goals, in six injury-affected years in his second spell at United.

In 2018 Pogba won the FIFA World Cup with France but his performance for United never quite matched those of the national team.

He won two trophies, The League Cup and the Europa League both in his first season at the United.

Pogba played his final game where the team lost by 4-1 in April and he picked up an injury in the first half.

Jesse Lingard

Lingard came through United’s youth academy and made his senior debut in August 2014, aged 21. He became an important player in the 2015-2016 campaign when he made 40 appearances in all competitions.

Lingard was dropped in 2020-21 campaign by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He was loaned to West Ham halfway and played a starring role for West Ham, who hoped to sign him on a permanent basis, but he stayed at United. This season he played only just 22 games for the club.

Overall Lingard made 232 appearances for United, scoring 35 times. With United, he won the UEFA Europa League(2016/17), FA Cup, and Carabao Cup where he scored in the final

Both tenure at the club is coming to an end.
