Players Who Have Played Most Test Matches For India: Test matches have always been exciting for both the fans and the players. Series like Ashesh and Border Gavaskar Trophy are one of the most reputed tournaments of the game. Playing a test match for any cricketer is like a dream. However, some of them not only complete this dream, but also go on to play 100 Test matches, which is a remarkable feat.

The first-ever test match was played in 1892 between Australia and England, there were matches before this which were played in test format but it was the first match to be called Test Cricket. Now all over the world 12 full International Cricket Council member countries play test cricket. Test matches are played between a duration of 3-5 days, it can often vary due to different circumstances.

Various players are recognized for their best performances in test cricket, Let’s know about the players who have played the most test match so far.

List of Players Who Have Played Most Test Matches For India

These Indian players have played over 100 test cricket matches so far. While Sachin Tendulkar being the only player in the world to play 200 test matches tops our list, he also holds the record for being the all-time highest run scorer in test cricket.

1. Sachin Tendukar (200 Test Matches)

Sachin Tendulkar is known for his high fanbase and is ‘the most worshipped player’ in the world. So far he has scored over 15,000 runs in test cricket, which is the all-time highest record globally.
Sachin has also received various national honors Arjuna award (1994), Bharat Ratna (2014), Khel Ratna award (1997-98) which is the highest sporting honor in India, and many more.

2. Rahul Dravid (163 Test Matches)

The former captain of the Indian National Team currently serves the team as head coach. Dravid was known for his batting techniques and is renowned as one of the best batters of all time. He has scored over 24,000 runs in international cricket, leading to his nickname ‘The wall’.

Dravid’s achievements include various sporting awards such as the ICC hall of fame, ICC cricketer of the year, Arjuna award, and many more.

3. VVS Laxman (134 Test Matches)

The former cricketer was also famous for his magical batting techniques, which stunned the fans after every match. Currently, he is the head of cricket in NCA and head coach of India under 19 team.

Laxman is also among the few players who have surpassed the record for over 100 test matches. He was also honored with the Padma Shri award in 2011 and later he retired in the year 2012.

4. Anil Kumble (132 Test Matches)

Anil Kumble is among the few ballers who have remained on the all-time list while being retired. As of 2022, he is the 4th highest wicket-taker in test crickets with 619 wickets.

With his bowling accuracy, people often called him ‘Jumbo’. Kumble has received the ICC cricketer hall of fame and Wisden cricketers of the year too.

5. Kapil Dev (131 Test Matches)

Kapil dev, the former cricketer captained the Indian team while the 1983 cricket world cup and became the first Indian captain to win the world cup. He has scored more than 500 runs in tests whereas he is the only player in cricket history to take more than 400 wickets.

Kapil dev was honored by Padma Shri (1982) and Padma Bhushan (1991). He also received the ICC cricket hall of fame on 11th March 2010.

Apart from the players listed above, some test cricket players have made records that are yet to be broken. One of them is Donald Bradman, who holds the record for the highest batting average in test cricket whereas Sri Lankan player Muttiah Muralitharan holds the record for the highest wicket-taker in test cricket.
