Chelsea’s star winger, Hakim Ziyech has now announced his retirement from international football. This means he will not appear for his national team Morroco further. The reason being said behind the decision is a feud with the manager of the national team.
Ziyech is only 28-year old, for most players, this is the time when they’re at their peak. However, Ziyech has announced to retire from international football. So, let’s know more in detail about the reason behind the decision.
Reason behind retirement of Hakim Ziyech
According to some reports, the reason behind Ziyech’s retirement is the feud with the national team manager. Vahid Halilhodžić is the current manager of Morocco national football team. He was appointed in 2019.

It all started last year, when manager Halilhodžić accused Ziyech of faking an injury to play for the national team against Ghana. Since then, Ziyech was out of the squad, despite being fit and performing well at Chelsea in Premier League.
Ziyech was not included in the Moroccan national team to play the AFCON tournament. The team lost to Egypt in the quarter-finals.
Now, Ziyech has revealed his statement about the situation and said, “Yes, this is my final decision. It’s all clear for me, how things are going over there. It’s all clear for me and I am focusing on what I am doing”
He added,”As I said before, I will not return to the national team.”

Ziyech was born in Netherlands and even played for Netherlands U21 till 2014. After that, he decided to represent his home country at the senior level.
The chances are rare, but if he’s not going to return to Morocco national team, he can return to the Netherlands. He is still young and has a lot of potential.
Earlier, Manchester City defender Laporta switched the national team from France to join Spain.
Ziyech made his debut for Morocco in 2015 against the Ivory Coast. He made 40 appearances for Morocco and scored 17 times.
This season, he has scored 6 goals for Premier League side Chelsea in 25 appearances.
