Julen Lopetegui is a former Spanish football player and is currently a manager. He has managed some big teams in his career like Real Madrid and Sevilla, from where he was recently sacked. Julen played 149 La Liga matches for more than 9 seasons and represented Real Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, and Barcelona as a goalkeeper in that competition.

For his football career, he started with Real Sociedad’s you club and later joined Real Madrid in 1988 and played for Spain’s national team in 1994. He started his managing career in 2003 and led several Spanish teams toward European titles.

In 2003 Julen started his coaching and managing career, he was assistant of the Spain coach Juan Santisteban at the UEFA European U17 championship 2003. After that he had his first head coaching at Raio in the 2003-04 campaign he also worked as a sports commentator in the 2006 FIFA World cup, then he returned to coaching with Real Madrid Castilla.

1. Porto:

On 6th May 2014 Julen was appointed at Portugal FC Porto and he returned to his club duties. He led the team to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League only in his first season. On 8th January 2016, he was replaced by Rui Barros and was relieved from his duties.

2. Spain:

After Vicente del Bosque’s retirement Lopetegui was announced as the Spain National team’s new manager on 21st July 2016. In his first matches, he led the team toward victory, and the team reluctantly qualified for the 2018 World Cup.

On 12th June 2018, it was announced that Julen will join Real Madrid as the head coach for a three-year contract.

3. Real Madrid:

After joining Real Madrid, Julen led his first important game against the rivals Atletico Madrid on 15 August 2018 which was a 4-2 loss. This was followed by a series of bad results and was later replaced by Santiago Solari.

4. Sevilla:

In 2019 Julen was appointed as the new manager of Sevilla FC on a three-year contract. He led the team to qualify for the champions league and the club also defeated Inter Milan in the 2020 UEFA Europa League final which was his first club honor.

It led to his extension of the contract for further two years however he was dismissed after 5 losses in 8 matches in the new season.
