It was not an ideal birthday eve for Cristiano Ronaldo as his team, Manchester United failed to make it into the next round of FA Cup 2021-22, all thanks to a penalty miss. Manchester United hosted Middlesbrough at Old Trafford in the FA Cup fixture, where the visiting team eliminated the Red Devils in a penalty shootout.
Earlier in the game, Paul Pogba won a penalty for his team after getting fouled inside the penalty box. Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to take that and did something very unusual. Ronaldo kicked the ball just wide and failed to give the much-needed lead to United.
However, the score ended 1-1 at the end and went into the penalty shootout. It was youngster Anthony Elanga who missed the penalty for the Red Devils which saw the exit doors for the door. After the shootout, it was Cristiano who stepped up to console the Swedish striker. Watch the clip:

United took the early lead, with the help of Jadon Sancho’s goal. Replying to that Matt Crooks leveled the score in the second half, which resulted in a penalty after 90 mins of game time. The penalty went on to the 8th kick as all of them were scored by the players. It was Elanga who missed the penalty and it came out as the decider one.
Manchester United are now out of EFL Cup, FA Cup, and the Premier League title also seems to be far for the team. The only hope for the team is UEFA Champions League, where they will face Atletico Madrid in the next round.
