Women’s Premier League Auction 2023: WPL auction on 13th February was full of surprises as several big names remained unsold whereas some players had the highest bidding. Smriti Mandhana received the highest bid of Rs 3.4 crore from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Whereas team India’s current captain Harmanpreet Kaur was bought for Rs 1.80 crores, comparatively cheaper and almost half as Mandhana by Mumbai Indians. So far, Deepti Sharma is the second costliest Indian player who was bought by UP Warriorz for Rs 2.6 crores.
Apart from the two allrounders, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shefali Verma were sold for Rs 2.2 crores and Rs 2 crores respectively by Delhi capitals, marking them in the list of the highest bids. Gujarat Titans had their first pick for WPL for Rs 3.20 crores by bidding on Ashleigh Gardner.

Top 5 Players Who Went Unsold in the WPL Auction 2023
Where some of the biggest players like Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Ashleigh Gardner were the first picks of the franchise, some fine players like Dani Wyatt, Amy Jones, and Alana King went unsold.
1. Dani Wyatt
Danielle Wyatt plays for England and had a base price of 50 lakhs in the WPL auction. Dani made her international debut against India on 1st March 2010. She was also a member of the 2017 Women’s World Cup winning team.
With the various records and centuries in both ODI and T20, Dani would have been a great asset in WPL 2023.
2. Amy Jones
Amy Jones was also among the players with the highest base price with 40 lakhs but the English player remained unsold too. She has even captained the England National team in the absence of Nat Sciver when she withdrew from the time due to her mental health issues.
3. Alana KingÂ
The Australian player also had a base price of 40 lakhs but unfortunately, she remained unsold. Alana is an all-rounder and she was also the 2nd highest wicket-taker during the 2022 world cup campaign for the Aussies as she took 12 wickets in 9 matches.
4. Salma Khatun
The Bangladeshi cricketer plays for the Bangladesh National team and has also captained the team between 2008 and 2020. Salma was also part of the historic silver medal win of Bangladesh in the Asian Games in 2010 against China. She remained unsold with a base price of 40 lakhs.
5. Tammy Beaumont
Tammy plays for England and she remained unsold even though being among the players with the highest base price. She was also part of the 2017 Women’s Cricket world cup winning team, she was among the leading run-scorer of the tournament. In 2019 Tammy was also named the Wisden Cricketer of The Year.
