In the tournament, India defeated the Sri Lankan team in the finals by six wickets and Ten balls on their home soil at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. And also became the first country to win ICC World Cup on their home soil. Famous cricketer Yuvraj Singh was declared as Man of the Tournament in the match. The tournament created history by featuring two Asian teams in the finals and was also the 1st time since the 1992 World Cup the Australian team did not feature in the finals. Coach And Captain When India Won World Cup in 2011

Gary Kristen was the coach of the Indian Cricket team from 2008 to 2011, leading them to their win in the tournament. Gary was next appointed as the coach of the South African Cricket team in 2011 and in August 2013 he stepped down from his position.

Also MS Dhoni the star player was the captain of the team. Dhoni was also rewarded as the Man of the Match in the finals for scoring 91 runs. Players like Virat Kohli and Virendra Sehwag also contributed by adding 83 runs in 15 overs.

2011 World Cup Finals

The finals generated much interest among the audience and also among Indian president Pratibha Patil and Sri Lankan President Mahindra Rajapaksa which lead even them to attend the match.

The greatest finisher and captain of all time MS Dhoni lifted the most awaited World Cup trophy after the 28 years wait.

On 15th August 2020, he announced his retirement in all forms of Cricket excluding IPL by adding an Instagram post.

The Tournament was played between 19th February to 2nd April 2011 among 14 national teams, it was India’s second win after 1983. The tournament was co-hosted by Sri Lanka, Bangladesh along with India. It was the 10th edition of the ICC World Cup.

India vs Pakistan In Semi-finals

In the Semi-finals of the ICC world cup, the Indian team faced the Pakistani Cricket team at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on 30 March 2011.

Team India won the toss and eventually the match too by scoring 260 runs in their 50 overs while dropping 9 wickets whereas the Pakistani team scored 231 runs in 49.5 overs. Thus after putting an end to Pakistan from the tournament India finally won against the Sri Lankan team in the finals.
