Eoin Morgan, England’s 50-over World Cup-winning captain, retired from international cricket on Tuesday. He steps down as England’s leading run-scorer and most capped player in both white-ball formats and the only man to lead the team to an ODI World Cup success.

Morgan since England’s failure at the 2015 Cricket World Cup, took the team to unprecedented heights.

Not only did he lead England to its first World Cup in 2019 but also took them to the No.1 ranking in One Day Internationals and T20s. The former captain has scored 700 runs in 16 Test Matches, playing his last red-ball match in February 2012.

He has played 225 ODIs for England and has scored 6957 runs while has 115 T20Is for England and has scored 2458 runs.

Morgan made his ODI debut for Ireland in 2006 against Scotland but then switched to England ahead of the 2009 World Twenty20.

He played his first game for England against the West Indies in Bristol.

He made his T20i debut in the 2010 World Cup where England won.

2019 World Cup Winning Captain announced his retirement from International Cricket on Tuesday(28 June 2022)

The England and Wales Cricket Board took to Twitter to share the news that Morgan has decided to bid adieu to International Cricket.

“After careful deliberation and consideration, I am here to announce my retirement from international cricket with immediate effect,” said Morgan in an ECB statement.

Morgan’s IPL Career

Eoin Morgan has played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Banglore, Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League

He has played 83 matches and has scored 1405 runs.

Morgan has also captained Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders during his stint in the cash-rich league, guiding the Kolkata-based side to the final in the 2021 season.

Morgan also finished level with former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for most matches as captain in the T20 format
